Anatana Metta (previous project)
The Anatana Metta project was initiated as a fight
against HIV/AIDS. It was led by monks. This project is a Buddhist
Leadership
Initiative. In Myanmar,
the influence of Buddhist monks is very strong. Therefore, when HIV/AIDS
issues
are discussed, people listen to the monks. First, the project staff
provided
HIV awareness. Secondly, they analysed the local situation, helped by
monks. As
a result, monks and project staff co-operate in the work against
HIV/AIDS. Thirdly,
the project staff asked the monks to spread Buddhist knowledge (dama) to
reduce
stigma and discrimination within the community. All the project
activities were supported by UNICEF. Also this project covered for other
township from Mandalay division.
